How to Write ChatGPT Ads That Get Clicks (English & Thai Examples)

A ChatGPT ad has a title of up to 50 characters and a description of up to 100, and OpenAI recommends writing well inside those limits: about 16 to 24 characters for the title and 32 to 48 for the description. The ads that earn clicks are clear, specific and benefit-first, and every ad group should carry several distinct versions so the system can match the right one to each conversation.

This guide covers the limits, how many versions to write, the text customization setting, and labelled English and Thai example ads for a generic Bangkok business. Writing bilingual creative is part of our ChatGPT Ads service, and the same principles apply if you write your own.

What does a ChatGPT ad look like?

ChatGPT ads appear below ChatGPT's responses and are labelled as ads. Each one has six parts, according to OpenAI's ad format overview:

  • your advertiser name,
  • your favicon, which is your logo,
  • a title,
  • a description,
  • an image,
  • a landing page link.

The image must be square, PNG or JPG, and no larger than 1200 by 1200 pixels. Your name and logo come from your account settings, so the title and description carry the whole message.

What are the character limits for ChatGPT ads?

Element Recommended Maximum
Title 16–24 characters 50 characters
Description 32–48 characters 100 characters

The recommended ranges come from OpenAI's campaign launch guide, and they are short on purpose. A title of 16 to 24 characters is three or four English words. Use the maximum only when a longer line adds real information.

Thai needs extra care. Thai vowels and tone marks written above or below a letter are separate characters in Unicode, so a Thai line can be longer in characters than it looks on screen. Check the live counter in Ads Manager rather than judging by eye.

How many ad versions should you write per ad group?

More than one, and each one different. OpenAI's guidance on creating ads recommends building for coverage: a high volume and diverse set of ads, with several title and description variations for each offering. It also asks that each variation introduce a different angle rather than repeat the same message in other words.

A practical way to get real variety is to give each version a different job:

  • The service: say plainly what you do.
  • The problem: name the situation the customer is in.
  • The location or audience: say who and where you serve.
  • The proof: a fact you can back up on the landing page, such as years in business or a guarantee you actually offer.
  • The next step: how to contact you, such as booking on LINE.

Keep each ad group focused on one service or customer need. OpenAI suggests separate ad groups when use cases need different messaging or different landing pages, so a cleaning company would split aircon cleaning from office cleaning rather than mixing them in one group.

What makes ChatGPT ad copy work?

People reading a ChatGPT answer are trying to solve something. Ads that feel like a useful next step get clicked; slogans get skipped. OpenAI's best practices come down to four rules:

  • Spell out the value in the title. Make it immediately clear what you offer. Choose informative words over broad marketing language.
  • Let the description add something new. Do not repeat the title. Add a benefit, a feature or a use case.
  • Send people to the most relevant page. Link to the page for that exact service rather than your homepage, and add UTM parameters to each ad's URL so you can see its results in GA4.
  • Be accurate. Ads can be rejected if they are misleading or inconsistent with the landing page. Only mention a price, a promotion or a claim that the page confirms.

Your ad copy also works together with the context hints you write for the ad group. Hints describe what you offer, who it helps and when it is useful, so the copy does not have to cover every situation on its own.

Should you turn on text customization?

Text customization is an optional setting that OpenAI introduced in September 2026. When it is on, ChatGPT Ads adapts your existing titles and descriptions to fit the conversation and automatically translates your ad copy into the user's preferred language, as described in OpenAI's announcement. Those adapted versions are produced automatically from your copy, so the words a user sees are not always the exact lines you wrote.

Check this setting on every campaign before you publish, and make a deliberate choice:

  • Turn it off when your ads mention prices, promotion terms or regulated claims, when every line must pass brand or legal review, or when you have written careful Thai copy you want shown exactly as written.
  • Leave it on when your offer is simple, your copy carries no sensitive claims, and broader matching matters more than exact wording.

Either way, write your own Thai ads for Thai customers. An automatic translation of an English line rarely sounds like a Thai business talking to a Thai customer.

Example ChatGPT ads for a Bangkok business (English and Thai)

These are illustrative examples for fictional businesses, not real campaigns or client ads. Character counts are shown in brackets.

Example 1: a home aircon cleaning service in Bangkok

Ad group: condo aircon cleaning. Landing page: the service page for condo aircon cleaning. Example context hint: "Home aircon cleaning for condo residents in Bangkok whose units have stopped cooling well".

English versions

Version Title Description
1. The service Condo Aircon Cleaning (21) Technicians clean your units at home. (37)
2. The problem Aircon Not Cooling? (19) Book a deep clean at your condo. (32)
3. The location Aircon Care in Bangkok (22) Wall and ceiling units cleaned at home. (39)

Thai versions (written in Thai, not translated line by line)

Version Title Description
1. The service ล้างแอร์ถึงคอนโด (16) ช่างล้างแอร์ถึงห้อง จองเวลาผ่าน LINE ได้เลย (43)
2. The problem แอร์ไม่เย็น ล้างเลย (19) ฝุ่นเยอะแอร์เย็นช้า นัดช่างล้างถึงบ้าน (38)
3. The location ล้างแอร์ในกรุงเทพฯ (18) ล้างแอร์ติดผนังและแอร์ฝังฝ้าถึงบ้าน (35)

Example 2: an accounting firm for small companies

Ad group: monthly bookkeeping for SMEs. Landing page: the bookkeeping service page in the matching language.

Language Title Description
English SME Accounting Bangkok (22) Monthly bookkeeping and tax filing for SMEs. (44)
English Bookkeeping for SMEs (20) Send receipts on LINE. We handle the books. (43)

Notice what the examples avoid: no invented prices, no "best in Bangkok" claims, and no title repeated in the description. Each version gives the system a different reason to show it.

What mistakes get ChatGPT ads rejected or ignored?

  • A landing page that does not match the ad, or that describes a different offer.
  • A landing page that blocks OpenAI's crawlers. OpenAI requires landing pages to allow OAI-AdsBot and recommends allowing OAI-SearchBot.
  • Claims the page cannot support, such as prices, discounts or guarantees that are not on the page.
  • One ad per ad group, or several ads that say the same thing.
  • Sending every ad to the homepage.
  • Keyword lists pasted into titles. ChatGPT Ads are not matched on exact keywords, as our comparison of ChatGPT Ads and Google Ads explains.

Good copy only pays off when you can see which version brings enquiries, so set up ChatGPT Ads conversion tracking before you judge any ad, and keep your bids and budget within the rules covered in our guide to ChatGPT Ads costs. If the landing page is the weak link, our landing page design team can build one that matches your ads.

FAQ

What is the character limit for a ChatGPT ad?

A ChatGPT ad title can be up to 50 characters and the description up to 100 characters. OpenAI recommends about 16 to 24 characters for the title and 32 to 48 for the description.

How many ads should I put in each ChatGPT Ads ad group?

Several. OpenAI recommends a high volume and diverse set of ads, with multiple title and description variations for each offering, and each variation taking a different angle.

What is text customization in ChatGPT Ads?

It is an optional setting that adapts your existing titles and descriptions to the conversation and automatically translates your ad copy into the user’s preferred language. Check it on every campaign and turn it off if every line needs review.

Should I write separate Thai and English ChatGPT ads?

Yes. Write Thai ads in natural Thai for Thai customers and English ads for English speakers, each linked to the landing page in the matching language, rather than relying on automatic translation.

Why was my ChatGPT ad rejected?

Common reasons are an ad that does not match its landing page, claims the page does not support, or a landing page that blocks OpenAI’s OAI-AdsBot crawler. Fix the issue, then resubmit or request another review in Ads Manager.
