AI Overviews in Thailand: Do You Still Need Classic SEO?

An AI Overview is a summary Google may place on some search results, often with links to pages it used. It is not on every query, and it is not a contract that your firm will be named. Classic SEO is still the work that makes a page crawlable, specific, and available, for ordinary results and for any page you hope a system can retrieve. If a buyer in Thailand has to find a firm or open a URL that can take an enquiry, that work has not been retired.

This article does not claim that an overview will show for your terms. It does not promise a ranking. A summary can answer a definition before anyone clicks. Keep the pages that still have to earn the click. Do not stop titles, indexation, or the service page a commercial query should land on.

Short answer: Keep classic SEO. Fix crawl and index first. Give each real query a specific page. Do not drop service pages because a summary sometimes sits above the links. Do not treat a mention inside an overview as something you can book in advance.

What an AI Overview is, and what it is not

On some Google results, a generated block answers the query near the top and points at sources. On other results you still see ads, Maps, the usual blue links, and other modules. Whether the block appears depends on the query, the language, and what Google decides to show that day. A screenshot from one laptop is not a rule for every searcher in Bangkok.

An overview is not ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity. Those products name sources in their own way. How a brand becomes something they can cite is a separate note: how to get ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity to cite your brand. This article stays on the Google results page, and on the classic SEO that page still requires.

Classic SEO, here, means a URL that can be crawled and indexed, a title and heading that match the query, a page that says something specific, and a path to the service page that should take the commercial click. A link inside an overview is not a first-place ranking. A missing mention is not proof the site is broken. You can make a page possible to retrieve. You observe display later, on the query the buyer types.

What still needs traditional SEO

These jobs remain when an overview is present, and they never left when it is not. None of them guarantees a ranking.

A URL Google can crawl and index

If the page is blocked, noindexed, stuck on a wrong canonical, or duplicated across English and Thai by accident, it cannot be a source and it cannot be a result. An overview does not skip that check. English and Thai are two documents when you publish both. The pass that includes crawl, index, and the service page a buyer should reach is on our SEO services page. This article does not quote a fee and does not promise a place in any module.

A title and heading that match a real query

Write the title, the H1, and the opening so a person, and a system, can see what the URL is for. A slogan, a title stuffed with every province, or a page named only with the brand does not become useful because a summary exists elsewhere. If the query asks for an SEO firm, the page that should answer is a service page that states the work, not a blog that defines an acronym and stops. Match the language of the query to the language of the page.

Pages that still have to take the click

Some queries are navigational or commercial. Someone wants the firm, the service, a place you actually serve, or a way to enquire. An overview that defines a term does not complete that job. Keep the service page. Keep a location page only for places you cover. Do not invent a price here. Do not let this article compete with the service URL for that commercial term.

Queries that never show an overview

Plenty of searches still return a list. Branded queries, very local queries, and many buying queries may show ads, Maps, or ordinary links with no generated summary. You cannot assume the format from one test. Classic SEO is how those results still have a title and a snippet that match the page. If Maps matters for a venue, the Google Business Profile and the matching page still need the same name, address, and phone you publish. An overview does not file that listing.

Specificity a summary can use

When a system quotes a page, it quotes something concrete: a process, a constraint, a distinction, a refusal. Generic paragraphs that could sit on any agency site are weak sources. Structured data can label facts the page already shows. It does not create the fact, and it does not place the firm in the overview. That labelling job is in structured data for AI search in Thailand. Write the sentence first. Mark it only if a reader can see it.

What changes when an overview is present

On some informational queries, a summary can satisfy the searcher before a click. Treat that as a risk to measure, not as a percentage this article will invent. Do not brief a client that AI Overviews cut traffic by a fixed share. Look at the query in Search Console and at the landing page. Do not call a missing click a broken site until you have seen the result type, in the language the buyer uses.

Clicks that arrive from an AI product should be counted from the hostname, not guessed from the direct channel. How to do that without calling every unassigned session “AI” is in how to see AI referrals in GA4. Direct traffic is still not AI traffic. An overview impression is not a session.

What does not change is the set of pages you still maintain. You still need a URL that can be fetched, a heading that matches the intent, and a path up to the SEO service page and sideways to the notes on citations, measurement, and markup. A link inside an overview, if it ever appears, is still a link to a page that has to load and offer a next step the summary did not complete.

A working order for a Thai site

Stop when the next step would invent a number, a price, or a promise.

  1. Split the list. Definitions and methods can live on articles. Queries that ask for a firm, a place, or a service belong on the service page.
  2. Read Search Console for the URLs you already have. Do not invent a baseline from a tool export you have not compared with the live site.
  3. Remove crawl blocks, accidental noindex, and English or Thai URLs that fight each other. Each language needs its own document if you publish both.
  4. Rewrite the page that should own the commercial query so a reader can see the work, who it is for, and what you will not claim. Leave prices off unless that page already prints them.
  5. For informational queries you still want to be useful on, write something a person could quote. Link up to the SEO services page, and sideways to the citation, measurement, and schema notes.
  6. After the page is indexed, search the query in Thai and in English, on a phone, logged out. Record whether an overview appears. That is an observation, not a target you set in advance.
  7. If the format changes, do not rebuild the site around the screenshot. Keep the page specific. Measure any referral you can name.

What this work is not

  • Not a method that places the brand inside every AI Overview, or inside ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity.
  • Not a reason to stop titles, internal links, or indexation because a summary sometimes answers first.
  • Not a reason to publish a new page for every city you do not serve.
  • Not a fee, a timeline, or a ranking guarantee.
  • Not a claim about how often the overview shows in Thailand. Look at the query before you put a number in a brief.

When this is an agency job

Do the first pass in-house if someone can read Search Console, compare the English and Thai pages, and tell a crawl block from a ranking wish. Bring help when nobody owns the property, when the service menu is a set of thin URLs, when the two languages contradict each other, or when the site cannot be fetched cleanly.

Digital Agency Bangkok can take that work as SEO services. This article is the method. It is not a promise that Google will show an AI Overview, cite the firm, or move a ranking. The related notes cover brand citations, AI referrals in GA4, and structured data. Look at the live service page before anyone quotes a plan. If the page does not say what you do, an overview cannot say it for you.

FAQ

Do AI Overviews mean you can stop classic SEO in Thailand?

No. An overview can appear on some queries and answer a definition before a click. Crawl, index, titles, and the pages that take commercial and local queries still need classic SEO. Nothing here guarantees a ranking or a place in the overview.

Will classic SEO put our brand inside the AI Overview?

No guarantee. Classic SEO makes a page possible to crawl and specific enough to retrieve. Whether Google shows an overview, and whether it links your URL, is something you observe after the page is indexed. A mention is not a booking.

Should we drop service pages and write only for AI Overviews?

No. Service pages still answer queries that ask for a firm, a place, or a way to enquire. An article can explain a method. It should link up to the service page rather than replace it. Do not invent a price on the article to compete with that page.

Does this apply to Thai-language queries as well as English?

Yes, as a method, not as a claim that both languages show the same modules. Search the query in the language your buyer uses. Keep English and Thai as separate documents if you publish both. Do not assume an overview you saw in English will appear on the Thai query, or the reverse.

How do we know if an overview is taking clicks?

Look at the query in Search Console and at the result on a phone, logged out. A summary can answer some informational queries before a click. Do not invent a percentage. Count any AI product referral from the hostname, and do not call direct traffic AI traffic.
